Gloryholder has received Approval in Principle for “LGM–B” type independent tank from DNV GL

2016-07-18

On 4th July 2016, Gloryholder Liquefied Gas Machinery (DL) Co., Ltd. has been approved in principle for “LGM–B” type independent tank by DNV GL. This is a great step of domestic companies in the area of cargo containment system on gas carriers.

Gloryholder started the R&D on IMO type “B” independent tank since early of 2015. One project team developed special “LGM–B” type independent tank after experiencing technical reserving, system design & optimization. It is fully applicable on fuel storage tank of commercial ships using LNG as fuel and cargo tank of LNG / LPG / LEG carriers.

“LGM–B”independent tank is covered with insulation layer and further protected by fully enclosed partial secondary barrier. Potential leaked liquid will be entirely contained inside of secondary barrier once there is a leakage. External cryogenic pump is arranged for transfer large amount of leaked liquid back to tank while those gas evaporated in partial secondary barrier will be blow out by ventilation system. Thanks to this innovative design, the damaging impact caused by continuously leakage is considered indefinitely delay, improving dramatically security and economy of the cargo tank. Moreover, there is unnecessary for replacing the surrounding ship hull structures by cryogenic resisting material, saving huge shipbuilding cost and simplifying the whole ship stress analyze. “LGM–B” independent tank shape is prismatic which is more convenient for compromising the ship structure design.

SIPO has issued patent on the fully enclosed secondary barrier system of “LGM–B”independent tank developed by Gloryholder who is currently applying for PCT international patent.

With the successfully AIP by DNV GL,Gloryholder will have more competitive advantage in these kinds of similar tanks, which establishes a solider foundation for the future development in LNG FGSS & gas CHS market.
